Jonathan Buttrey, LCMHC, is a skillful therapist with seven years’ clinical experience. He has worked in in a variety of settings, including community mental health, group homes, acute psychiatric behavioral health, and residential treatment with adolescents, adults, and families. Jonathan is a versatile therapist who has helped treat clients suffering from a wide range of mental health disorders, trauma, organic neurological deficits and interpersonal chaos.
Jonathan’s own experiences growing up have influenced him greatly and shaped his desire to pursue a healing profession. “I knew I wanted to be a therapist working with kids/teens as early as high school and I am living out my dream here at Youth Care.”
As an emotion focused therapist Jonathan believes in doing “the deep emotional work” that promotes lasting change. “I help people understand and express their emotions.” He also utilizes DBT, CBT, expressive art and experiential therapies in his work with youth and families. Jonathan is known as a collaborative and supportive colleague who “helps his clients dig deeper emotionally and go places they may not otherwise go.”
Jonathan earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at New Mexico State University. He went on to graduate school, earning a master’s degree in counseling from Northern Arizona University. In addition to having been trained in multiple theories and interventions, Jonathan strives for “excellence in documentation” and is an ardent advocate for his clients with various funding sources.
When Jonathan is not working, he enjoys spending time with his beautiful wife, five children (four daughters and a son), and extended family members. His faith is an important part of his life, which helps drive his commitment to serving others. Hobbies include driving his truck, hunting big game, camping, playing just about any sport, and watching movies.
